• Mary Phillips to contest election on 24 September. • A second candidate has declared their intention to stand in the constituency of Ayre & Michael in the upcoming House of Keys General Election. • Mary Phillips is a Lezayre Commissioner, and also works at Sulby School as a lollipop lady and school dinner lady.
• The new agreement will replace a near 50-year-old arrangement. • Treasury Minister Chris Thomas says the proposed agreement will replace existing arrangements that are now almost 50 years old. • Under the changes, National Insurance contributions will generally be paid in the jurisdiction where the work is carried out, helping to remove uncertainty for both workers and employers.
• The firm now employs more than 60 island staff in a variety of roles. • Opened at the end of last month by Lieutenant Governor, His Excellency Sir John Lorimer, the Managed Services Hub’ is the long-term project of Island Escapes, the Castletown-based holiday letting agency that manages almost 200 properties across the Isle of Man.

• 'Undervalued doctors' say they have no choice amid ongoing issues at Noble's Hospital. • Doctors on the Isle of Man say pay and working culture is still a huge issue and strike action could be imminent. • The British Medical Association will begin balloting its members on Friday (12) after Noble’s Hospital was placed under the highest level of operational pressure last month.
• Volunteer group took to social media. • The Unified Filipino Community IOM say its members are praying for their kababayans (compatriots) after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit the Philippines on Sunday. • More than 15 people have been killed while at least 130 are injured.
• IoM Railways says services on Snaefell Mountain Railway and part of MER are suspended. • A road in Laxey is partially blocked after some overhead Manx Electric Railway lines came down. • Police are on the scene at New Road assisting with traffic management.
• A second attempt to find out if UK nationals who move to the Isle of Man are immigrants or not has been thrown out by the Cabinet Office. • A Freedom of Information request was sent to the body in April asking it to confirm people from the UK aren’t immigrants when they move here. • That request was refused because it wasn’t a valid FOI - and a month later, the same person asked the same question in a new submission.
• Manx Utilities says it hired a specialist to see what effect floating solar panels would have on drinking water at Sulby Reservoir. • Responding to a Tynwald question for written reply from Rushen MHK Michelle Haywood, the organisation’s chair John Wannenburgh said no decision’s been made about the panels yet. • Dr Haywood wanted to know whether POFAs, also known as forever chemicals, could be released into the water.
• The 20-year-old was making his Mountain Course debut. • The event’s official safety partner, RST, presents the accolade each year to the rider who shows outstanding performance, dedication and potential. • The decision lies with rider liaison officers John Barton and Richard Milky’ Quayle, who are therefore best placed to recognise the achievements in line with what the award represents.
• The award aims to celebrate the event’s unsung heroes and privateers. • The Irish rider was the recipient of the Monster Energy-sponsored award, which aims to celebrate the event’s unsung heroes and privateers, following a public vote. • He came out on top ahead of fellow solo competitors Jonathan Perry, Baz Furber and Timothee Monot.

• Inquest into death of Daniel Ingham opens. • Report by BBC Isle of Man A competitor killed in a crash during a qualifying session for the Isle of Man TT Races suffered chest injuries, an inquest has heard. • Daniel Ingham, from Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, died after crashing at Doran’s Bend, between Ballig and Glen Helen, on the western section of the course on the opening lap of the evening session on 27 May.
• James Hampton standing as an independent candidate. • The first candidate has announced their intention to stand in Glenfaba and Peel in the upcoming election. • James Hampton describes himself as a ’professional Jack-of-all-trades, running his own businesses and working in numerous sectors including retail, civil engineering and construction.
• Electric vehicle drivers are being warned about work on public chargers this week. • Manx Utilities says it’s carrying out maintenance and repairs on rapid chargers. • On Tuesday, June 9 workers will be carrying out work at Tesco in Port Erin and Peel.
• How do satnavs know the speed limit? • That’s what Onchan MHK Julie Edge will be asking Infrastructure Minister Tim Crookall in the House of Keys this week. • She wants to find out how satnav system providers find out about local speed limits.
• Can you help police find this man? • Police are asking for your help identifying a man they’d like to speak to over an incident at the end of practice week. • Officers have released CCTV images of the man, who they say may have information about what happened outside the Villa Marina at 3am on Saturday, May 31.
• Bus Vannin's apologised if you're having trouble using its website to put money on Go cards. • The organisation took to Facebook saying it’s aware of problems with its online payments system and is working on a solution. • It says it’s hoping to have the problem fixed by around 10am tomorrow, Tuesday, June 9.
• The venue has been shut since January. • The future of the popular pub remains uncertain after it became the focus of the investigation and has remained closed since January. • The tenant of The Colby Glen announced on social media on January 8 that the pub would be taking a short break’ following a busy festive period but it has never opened since.
• Could Douglas Council move back to weekly bin collections? • That’s the hope of Councillor Karel Ver Elst, who’s put a motion forward for debate by the local authority. • He’s called for residents to be consulted about scrapping the fortnightly collections - on the understanding moving back to weekly bin collections could cost ratepayers more.
• If you miss the Christmas lights display in Douglas, the capital's council has some good news for you. • Next year it’ll keep lights in the city centre until February 2027. • At its last meeting the executive committee approved spending £7,750 on projection discs for the longer display.
• The Mountain Road’s one-way system is due to be removed tomorrow. • Workers from the Department of Infrastructure will be taking equipment away from 9.30am on Tuesday, June 9. • They’ll be working on it until 4.30pm.
• Braddan Commissioners say they'll be carrying out work on trees at a popular skatepark this week, Monday, June 8. • It’ll involve ten days of removing dead or diseased trees at Cronk Grianagh Park, near Snugborough Trading Estate. • The local authority says most of the work will be carried out away from the playground and skatepark, so the public shouldn’t be affected.
• Developer Dandara has applied for permission to build five detached homes on a planned housing estate in Peel. • In a series of applications, the company says it wants to change some of the houses it’s building at Ballaterson Farm on Glenfaba Road to provide more choice for buyers. • The company has already been granted permission to build 92 new homes on the site and building work is currently underway.
• A contractor is expected to start work on new Laxey flood defences this week. • This will involve building another section of flood defence wall along Glen Road, and strengthening part of an existing wall on the opposite bank. • The Department of Infrastructure says the contractor will move into the site today, Monday, June 8, with works expected to continue until the end of September.
• The launch of a new pensions app has been delayed. • Public Sector Pensions Authority vice chair Rob Callister gave an update on the My Pocket Pension app in response to a Tynwald question for written reply from Douglas East MHK Joney Faragher. • The rollout had been planned for spring this year, but this won’t be happening because the PSPA had to update admin systems and make an improved version of the app.
• There's a chance to have your say about plans for the capital's biggest park this week. • Douglas Council says members of its project team will be in the Rocket Play Area to discuss the Nobles Park Masterplan. • The draft plans will be on display from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, June 13.
• It has been an honour to contribute to such an important cause. • The collaboration was launched during the Royal National Lifeboat Institute’s ( RNLI ) 200th anniversary year and centred on a limited-edition Refuge Rum, created to celebrate the organisation’s Isle of Man origins while supporting its work around the island’s coastline.
• It’s safe to say the rumours are all true - he is a very friendly guy. • Belfast brothers Aaran and Conor McGrath, founders of gourmet pie business Pie Eyed, were catering at the Black Dub viewing area during race fortnight when they were asked to prepare food for a small group of guests. • It was only when they arrived to deliver the order that they realised one of those guests was the Matrix and John Wick star.
• Douglas defendant given 12-month probation order and ordered to pay costs. • Liam Patrick Flanagan, of Hazel Close, admitted the offence and was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs. • He was said to have breached the order on April 30, when he was in the same location as the woman he was prohibited from contacting.
• Court hears motorist believed he had bought a 12-month licence. • Paul Bradley Smith, of The Britney, pleaded guilty to having no vehicle tax, a defective tyre, and a tyre below the legal tread limit. • The court heard he was stopped by police on February 14, while driving a Peugeot 508 on Queen’s Promenade in Douglas.
• I dread to think what we are spending on this mobile unit. • It seems ridiculous. • It seems ridiculous’ Members of the island’s planning committee expressed dismay at having no choice but to approve plans for a mobile dental unit at Ramsey Cottage Hospital.
• He breached his domestic abuse notice twice in three days. • Alan Christopher O’Reilly was seen by an off-duty police officer at the hospital on May 4, visiting a woman he was prohibited from contacting. • Then on May 6, the 44-year-old was found with her in her garden.
• He made the comments after being asked to leave the pub. • Twenty-two-year-old Callum Murphy, who lives at Hillside Avenue, was asked to leave the Marina Road pub by the manager on March 28, but argued, telling him: I could take you down. • I could take any of you down.
